Intercity were invited to work on a brand refresh for Bristol Pound, the UK's largest local currency. We knew that the existing logo already had a very strong design concept; the combination of a pound sign and an uppercase B. With that in mind, we wanted to push this concept further, making a contemporary mark that had a more personal and hand-crafted feel. Working to a short deadline, we drew a huge amount of initial sketches before settling on a logo that we felt represented Bristol Pound’s shift towards a better business offering.
We then evolved the design concept further by creating a series of shapes/patterns from the logo mark itself. These shapes are used as a framing device for communications - while also representing the river that runs through the heart of Bristol. Another local reference point is the primary brand blue, which was inspired by the cobalt colour of Bristol blue glass.
